MEET YOUR ACADEMY DIRECTOR: Ustadh AFEEZ AKANNI OTUN
Ustadh Afeez Akanni Otun is a graduate of the prestigious University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, where he studied Arabic Language and graduated with distinction. He also earned a Master’s degree in Arabic Linguistics from the same University. He is currently a Master’s researcher in Arabic Literature and Modern Literary Criticism at the King Khalid University, Abha, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His research interests are Arabic Rhetoric, Literature, Modern Literary Criticism and Linguistics.
During his years of study as an undergraduate, Afeez was a scholarship model for his peers, having won a number of scholarship and awards in the study of Arabic, such as the 2016 Award for Best Graduating Student in Arabic, 2016 Late Alhaji Ibrahim Lawal Ogunleye Memorial Prize for Best Graduating Student in Arabic, Undergraduate Scholarship Awards 2014 and 2015, all from the University of Ilorin.
Prior to his first degree, he had completed his Arabic Senior Secondary School (Thanawiyyah) Certificate graduating with distinction and also as the Best Graduating Student at Islahudeen Arabic School, Iwo.
Thereafter, he proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, for a diploma in Arabic Language Education. In 2010, he successfully completed with distinction, the memorization of the Glorious Qur’an at Alfitrat Islamic Institute, Iwo.
He had served as Special Assistant on Media (Writer/Translator) at the Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Office of the Governor, State of Osun, Nigeria, between 2016 and 2018. He also taught Arabic Prosody and Translation at the Department of Arabic, University of Ilorin, during his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2016.
As a distinguished participant at the 2020 Arabic Cultural Show organized by Abha Arabic Literary Club, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, he made a sterling presentation in Arabic on the topic: “Arabic Cultural Outlook in Nigeria”. He was also a participant at a Training Course for Arabic and Islamic Education Teachers, Organized by Islamic University of Medina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Nigeria, in 2011. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (NITI) and the Nigerian Centre for Arabic Research. He is the author of The Garment of the Omnipotent, published by Daarul-Fikril-Arabiy, Cairo.
